California-based Farmers Insurance has promoted Roy Smith to the post of new head of Distribution/Sales-Life for Mercer Island, Washington based Farmers New World Life Insurance Company.

Smith, currently serving as head of Farmers Pacific Zone, joined Farmers in July 1985 as a personal lines underwriter in the Mission, Kansas Regional Office.

During his career at Farmers, he held various roles with increasing responsibilities that includes regional education marketing manager and marketing administration manager for Farmers Portland Regional Office in 1992.

Smith also held a number of executive positions in Colorado and Ohio offices and was recently promoted as the head of the South western Zone in 2009.

Farmers Insurance Group offers both personal lines passenger automobile and homeowners insurance, while also providing a wide range of other insurance and financial services products.

The insurer serve more than 10 million households with more than 20 million individual policies across all 50 states through the efforts of over 50,000 exclusive and independent agents and nearly 24,000 employees.
