eHealth, parent company of eHealthInsurance, said that it is entering the online retail medicare insurance market in the state of Maryland by adding medicare supplement plans from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to its online retail web site eHealthMedicare.com.

The company said that eHealthMedicare is a new online service that helps consumers get access to medicare health plan options. It allows medicare-eligible consumers to obtain premium quotes, compare benefits of medicare supplement plans and enroll online using e-signature and e-payment technologies.

In addition, the new online offering also provides free personal assistance from licensed health insurance professionals employed by the company and certified to provide assistance on medicare supplement plans from CareFirst. Through its online retail website, senior Americans and other medicare-eligible consumers can also have access to information about the federal government’s medicare program as well as private medicare options.

Bruce Telkamp, executive vice president of business and corporate development at eHealth, said: At eHealth we’re committed to giving senior Americans the information, choices and personal assistance they need in order to make the best decisions for their health insurance needs. Our strategy for the senior market is to provide a comprehensive selection of products from leading carriers throughout the country, along with an online research and shopping experience that’s comparable to what we’ve delivered at eHealthInsurnace.com for the under-65 market.

Adding medicare supplement plans from CareFirst is a significant first step for us in this journey, and we are very pleased that our first online Medicare product offering is available from a premier provider like CareFirst.”
