Direct General, a Tennessee-based financial services holding company, has appointed John Mullen as its new CEO, effective immediately.
Mullen will succeed CEO Carey Benson, who departed from the company.
Mullen will bring 35 years of experience in the insurance industry to the new role, including service as president of Unitrin Specialty, president of Financial Indemnity, Western Region president.
and SVP claims for Windsor Insurance Group.
He also held various leadership roles with Great American Insurance, Unigard Insurance, and Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Direct General chairman Robert Sandler said John Mullen brings extensive experience and a great track record in leading personal and casualty insurance organizations.
"I know that he will drive execution of our near-term business plan and build a platform for future growth," Sandler said.
Direct General’s operating subsidiaries provide personal automobile insurance, term life insurance, premium finance and other consumer products and services.
