To check unfair health rescissions without state regulator’s consent

The California State Assembly has passed Assembly member Hector De La Torre’s Assembly Bill 2. The bill monitors insurance industry from wrongly cancelling healthcare policies of patients without the consent of state regulators.

De La Torre has contributed in preventing unfair cancellations from insurance companies that protects consumers from unfair treatment from the insurance companies. Last year’s bill, AB 1945, passed both the Senate and the Assembly with bipartisan support, but was vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger.

De La Torre, said: “The insurance industry has made billions by unfairly cancelling health policies.People who get sick deserve to get coverage for services that they paid for and anything less is unacceptable.

Dr. Dev Gnanadev, President of the California Medical Association said: Californians need health care coverage they can rely on when they get sick.”
