Darwin Professional Underwriters has created two new product-centric underwriting divisions, the health care division, and the errors and omissions division.

Under the leadership of senior vice president and national practice leader, Cynthia Oard, the newly created health care division combines all of Darwin’s health care-related professional liability teams into one unit encompassing medical professional liability, health care management liability, and managed care errors and omissions (E&O) liability.

According to Darwin, the proposed organizational changes will better position the company to both maintain and build on its leadership role in delivering new health care specialty products.

The E&O division will be headed by Nicole Haggerty, senior vice president and national E&O practice leader. Combining a number of existing practice areas, the E&O division has been created to maximize operating efficiencies, benefiting both Darwin and its producers and insureds.

Susan Chmieleski has been promoted to senior vice president and serves as risk management lead and health care product manager. She continues her oversight of the risk management services that are delivered with each of Darwin’s professional liability products. Ms Chmieleski role has now been expanded, as she will partner with Ms Oard to enhance and diversify Darwin’s overall health care product portfolio.

Ms Chmieleski said: The new divisional structure will allow us to align resources even more effectively, in order to continue the growth of our health care franchise.
