El Segundo, California-based Computer Sciences Corporation has developed a suite of new products designed to improve productivity for insurance claims professionals.
The company’s Claims Accelerator for life and annuity companies and its Claims Desktop for property and casualty insurers are expected to be released in early 2006.
Our new claims components will deliver business results by enabling insurers to modernize their business processes while protecting their existing investments in people and technology, said Jim Cook, president of Computer Sciences Corporation’s (CSC) financial services group. This makes business process change practical.
According to the firm, the Claims Accelerator supports death claims, annuity payouts, disability income, long-term care and Medicare supplement claims. The life and annuity claims management component aims to eliminate paper-based processing while maintaining proper documentation and enforcing insurers’ procedures. CSC is claiming the new product may improve insurers’ claims processing productivity by 50%.
The Claims Desktop is a browser-based system that integrates multiple claim functions, applications and data to enable adjusters to introduce new capabilities such as claim profiling, claims routing and functional collaboration. Adjusters can use the single Claims Desktop screen to share data across multiple applications, while the task management software is built to guide them and help ensure they use their organization’s expectations and parameters when they investigate, evaluate and resolve claims.
Both platforms employ an external rules engine in an effort to facilitate the defining and modification of business rules and calculations.
