CNA Financial Corporation has announced that, effective mid-January 2008, John Beckman will be appointed as senior vice president and chief risk officer of the company.

As chief risk officer, Mr Beckman will be responsible for determining appropriate risk tolerances as well as measuring and monitoring risk throughout CNA. Mr Beckman’s appointment will enhance CNA’s focus on enterprise risk management, which has been led by executive vice president Mike Fusco in his dual role as chief risk officer and chief actuary. Mr Fusco will continue as executive vice president and chief actuary.

Mr Beckman recently served as president of ReAdvisory, an operation responsible for consulting services, including enterprise risk management, for specialty reinsurance broker, Carvill. Also joining CNA in mid-January will be Tom Stone, who will assume the role of vice president of catastrophe modeling and reporting and will report directly to Mr Beckman.

Craig Mense, CFO of CNA, said: John Beckman has an impressive track record that includes actuarial consulting services and property catastrophe exposure management. Today’s business risks are increasingly complex and interconnected. We are pleased to have someone of John’s caliber lead our company-wide risk management efforts.
