US-based commercial insurance writer CNA Insurance has promoted John Taylor as its new chief underwriting officer (CUO), with immediate effect.

Taylor, who will report to CNA Europe CEO John Hennessy, will manage the company’s underwriting across marine, casualty, property and financial lines, as well as its specialist offerings in technology and renewable energy sector.

Hennessy said John played a significant role in developing CNA Europe’s business in recent years, displaying a commitment to strong underwriting foundations and risk management while overseeing innovative products and serving the needs of the broker community.

Taylor will continue in his current role to chair the company’s pan-European underwriting committee, overseeing underwriting operations and controls throughout its network of offices in the UK and continental Europe.

Other members of the committee include chief actuary and risk officer Carl Kearney and CNA Europe’s specialist healthcare business, Health Pro underwriting officer Rhonda Buege.

Taylor joined CNA Europe in 2006, leading its financial lines business before his remit was widened to include overall underwriting responsibilities for its specialty lines operations. He holds 25 years experience in the insurance industry.
