CNA Financial, a provider of commercial insurance products, has appointed Mark Verheyen as new senior vice president and chief risk officer.

In his new role, Verheyen will lead company-wide risk management efforts, including determining risk tolerances as well as measuring and monitoring risk throughout CNA .

Verheyen will succeed John Beckman who has accepted the role of chief underwriting officer in Commercial Insurance.

He has 20 years of insurance industry experience includes spending the first 10 years at CNA in a variety of roles including pricing, reserving, underwriting, and reinsurance.

He went on to assume actuarial and modeling roles at other firms including Ernst & Young and Travelers before rejoining CNA.

Verheyen rejoined CNA in 2008, and played a key role as a member of its enterprise risk management team, leading the development of its internal economic model, an important part of strategic and operational planning, capital management decision making, and day-to-day business execution.

CNA executive vice president and chief financial officer Craig Mense said Mark is well respected here and within the industry as an expert in enterprise risk management.
