City of Tucson in Arizona has selected medical insurance services provider Cigna as its dental coverage carrier.

According to Cigna, around 6,000 City of Tucson employees and retirees can choose a dental PPO (DPPO) or HMO (DHMO) plan, which provides access to a network of general dentists and specialists practicing in Tucson area, beginning July 1, 2010.

Cigna will also allow City of Tucson employees to participate in integrated programs including Cigna WellAware for better health disease management program and its oral health integration program, which is designed to help eliminate cost as a barrier for people with chronic health conditions or for women who are pregnant.

In addition, the city employees can also use Cigna’s online dental health resources and interactive tools including periodontal and cavity risk assessment tools and dental treatment cost estimator.

Julie Vayer, vice president of dental and behavioral networks at Cigna, said: “Cigna’s combined strengths in dental and medical fit well with the City of Tucson’s employees’ needs. Adding dental gives us the chance to provide even greater access to the additional tools and resources we have available.”
