Cigna has appointed Philip Emond as the new executive vice president and chief information officer for its US operations, effective 8 October 2010.

Emond, currently senior vice president of Cigna Information Technology, will succeed Michael Woeller, who will retire next month after serving as executive vice president and CIO of the company’s US operations since October 2007.

Before joining Cigna, Emond held several senior financial services leadership positions, most recently as executive vice president for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).

Prior to that, Emond served as managing director of technology at Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank, and as senior vice president and CIO of ING Canada.

Cigna president and CEO David Cordani said that in naming Phil to this role, the company will continue to build on the solid foundation Mike has established in partnership with Phil and the entire Cigna technology team.
