Cigna, a provider of employer-purchased medical insurance for expatriates, has opened a new office and operations in Turkey.

The health insurer said that its Turkish unit, Cigna Hayat Sigorta, will offer personal accident and life policies and will add other insurance products in near future.

It will offer supplemental health care and life insurance marketed directly to customers via the internet and television and through affinity partners organizations that offer insurance to members.

Cigna International president Bill Atwell said the expansion into Turkey demonstrates its commitment to being a global health services company, and the locally staffed team and operations represent the customer-centric approach to the marketplace.

According to Cigna, the move followed a detailed analysis of Turkish consumers’ insurance needs and behaviors, plus a study of the local insurance industry.

With Turkish-based sales, operations and client management teams, the frm beleives that it will be able to serve customers by offering innovative products and services that meet important market needs.

Cigna has more than seven million health, life and accident policies around the world and sells insurance in 30 countries and foreign jurisdictions.
