Cigna and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) have entered into an agreement to enhance the in-network access for Cigna customers to all UPMC facilities and its affiliated physicians.

Under this new agreement, Cigna customers will be able to continue receiving health care services at UPMC’s facilities and through its physicians at in-network rates.

UPMC operates 20 academic, community, and specialty hospitals and 400 outpatient sites, employs more than 2,800 physicians, and offers an array of rehabilitation, retirement, and long-term care facilities.

Cigna HealthCare of Pennsylvania president and general manager Vince Sobocinski said the company can meet the needs of the customers through this agreement and also help ensure that quality health care remains affordable and accessible to them.

UPMC vice president, payor contract services Joseph Chuba said this agreement benefits employees and employers throughout Western Pennsylvania by enhancing choice and competition in the insurance market and ensures Cigna customers have access to UPMC’s high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused health care.
