Chartis, the property-casualty and general insurance firm of AIG, has appointed Tim Carter as chief underwriting officer for Chartis Global Commercial Insurance.

In his new role, Carter will be responsible for underwriting leadership, strategy and governance for the financial lines, specialty, property, casualty and global risks solutions businesses within Chartis Global Commercial Insurance.

Carter joins Chartis from Zurich Financial Services Group, where he was the chief underwriting officer for Zurich in North America.

His previous positions at the company included serving as European chief underwriting officer, underwriting director for personal lines, and pricing director for commercial and corporate business in the UK.

Chartis Global Commercial Insurance CEO John Doyle said Tim will lead the efforts to enhance risk selection and underwriting tools, as well as ensure greater consistency in the underwriting process worldwide.
