The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has selected CareSource, in conjugation with Humana to serve people who qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare (often referred to as dual eligible) in the Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown markets.

The department has appointed both firms as part of the state’s new Integrated Care Delivery System (ICDS) to offer the services.

The firms will serve 31,000 dual eligible people in Northeast region (Cleveland market), 16,000 dual eligible in East Central region (Akron market) and 9,000 dual eligible in Northeast Central region (Youngstown market).

CareSource president and chief executive officer said Pamela Morris said people who are dually eligible for Medicaid and Medicare are among the most vulnerable populations, with multiple chronic conditions and complex health care needs.

"Today, they face the daunting challenge of navigating two separate programs often resulting in uncoordinated and costly care," Morris added.

CareSource and Humana will co-operate each other to deliver innovative, full-service solutions to federal and state governments looking to enhance care coordination, the firm said.

The alliance will provide a fully integrated Medicare/Medicaid solution – one card, one point of contact and one care treatment plan – with an emphasis on preventative care and wellness, claims Humana.
