e-Prescription is intended to reduce health care costs and enhance patient safety

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has partnered with Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California and Medco Health Solutions, to reduce health care costs and enhance patient safety, quoted Business Journal.

The companies will aid hospitals, private practice and other health care institutions in the proper use of electronic prescription system.

Priya Mathur, Chairperson of CalPERS Health Benefits Committee, said: “Our goal with this pilot project is to protect our members’ safety, while accelerating the acceptance and an adoption of e-prescribing by the physicians who serve them. The e-prescribing enhances patient safety, raises the quality of care provided and minimise costs to doctors, insurance companies and patients.

Physicians participating in the pilot will give their input on the best ways to use e-prescription technology.
