The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has appointed Stacie Sormano as the new chief of Retirement Research and Planning Division (RRPD) effective 1 January 2012.

Sormano will report to Ann Boynton, deputy executive officer for Benefit Programs Policy and Planning.

She and her team will handle public policy issues to protect the sustainability of the retirement plan.

Sormano was most recently serving as the Chief of the Office of Planning and Accreditation at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Prior to this new role, Sormano served for four years as assistant chief of CalPERS Health Policy and Program Support Division.

She worked as the Deputy Director of the Research and Program Evaluation Division at First 5 California.

Boynton said that Stacie’s strengths in administration and analysis will help in evaluating the firm’s policies and the legislative process examining pension systems throughout the State.
