Brown & Brown, a provider of insurance and reinsurance products, has promoted Linda Downs, currently serving as senior executive vice president of the company, as new regional president.

According to the company, this promotion reflects Downs’ assumption of responsibility for the oversight of additional retail operations of the company in Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Ohio.

She will continue to be responsible for certain of the company’s retail operations in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin, and for Halcyon Underwriters, a wholesale brokerage division operation in Florida.

She currently serves as director and president or in another executive officer capacity for several of Brown & Brown’s subsidiaries.

Downs has been with Brown & Brown since 1980, when she founded and commenced service as profit center leader of the Orlando, Florida retail office, where she worked until 1998.

She will also continue to oversee certain corporate matters, including the company’s Benefits Department and its Leadership Schools.

In 2001, she was named as regional executive vice president and was promoted to executive vice president for Leadership Development in 2006.

Brown & Brown president and CEO Powell Brown said that Linda’s 30 year tenure with Brown & Brown and her experience in all aspects of the business uniquely qualify her to take on these additional responsibilities.
