Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has elected Terry Kellogg to serve as president and chief operating officer of the company. The company has also announced the retirement of Phillip Pope as president and CEO, effective June 30, 2010.

Mr Kellogg is currently the company’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. He joined 28 years ago as vice president and chief actuary. He has served as a senior officer for the last 12 years and was named executive vice president in 2002.

He currently serves on the boards of the Birmingham Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as an officer of the Business Council of Alabama and as a treasurer of the United Way of Central Alabama.

The company has also named Tim Kirkpatrick as the new executive vice president. He, currently senior vice president, has been with the company for 33 years, including the past 10 years as a senior officer.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama offers coverage plans to corporations, individuals and the senior market. It is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
