Hires new partner in Birmingham

Berrymans Lace Mawer (BLM), a UK-based law firm, has expanded its national professional indemnity team with the addition of new partner, Chris Fitton.

Mr. Fitton joins the firm’s Birmingham office from Pinsent Masons, where he was a partner and head of its Birmingham insurance team. He specialises in resolving professional negligence claims against solicitors and financial intermediaries. His clients include Lloyd’s underwriters, composite insurers, independent financial advisers/networks and life offices.

Julian Smart, head of professional indemnity in BLM Birmingham, said: “Mr. Fitton is a lawyer with a great deal of experience in resolving insurance disputes and we are delighted that he is joining the team. He will be a valuable asset to the firm and will be pivotal in maintaining and developing the quality of service we provide to clients.”

Mr. Fitton said: “Liability insurers are increasingly caught between the need to properly scrutinise higher numbers of claims against professionals and the need to control policy premiums for their insureds. I am delighted to be moving my practice to a firm with the ambition and business model to better meet those challenges. I am looking forward to adding my 18 years’ experience to a team which continues to show such solid growth in this area and attract good talent.”
