Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has secured insurance license in Australia, which will allow it to offer all lines of general products in the country.

The license allows the company to immediately offer property, casualty, financial lines and marine cargo insurance in the country.

The company has started operations in Sydney, while Chris Colahan serves as president for Australasia region.

Chris said: "BHSI enters the market with financially strong capacity and a commitment to serving this market for decades to come."

Other members of the Chris team include Australasia chief financial officer and COO Frank Costigan, Australasia executive and professional lines head Cameron McLisky and Australasia human resources head Anne O’Keefe, as well as other members.

BHSI president Peter Eastwood said: "BHSI is committed to expanding into geographic markets and lines of business where we can provide financially strong, highly responsive underwriting solutions and market leading service. Our move into Australia reflects this strategy.

"Under Chris’ leadership, we’ve already built a stellar underwriting, claims, and functional team to serve the needs of the Australian market."

BHSI also established operations in the US, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong, in addition to the Australian platform. It is currently involved in pursuing its insurance license in New Zealand.

BHSI offers commercial property, casualty, healthcare professional liability, executive and professional lines, surety, travel, programs, and homeowners insurance.
