AXIS Insurance has established a Healthcare unit as part of its strategy to offer professional liability insurance and associated standard casualty coverages to physician groups, hospitals, allied healthcare facilities and individual physicians.
The newly founded unit will be managed by Kimber Lantry, who joined AXIS Insurance as an executive vice president. He will oversee the business from Northern California.
AXIS Insurance US operations president Peter Wilson said, "We believe the healthcare industry represents an attractive and highly complementary business opportunity for AXIS Insurance to bring to bear its specialty underwriting expertise, service capabilities and capital strength."
Prior to joining AXIS Insurance, Lantry was working with Hudson Insurance Group where he headed healthcare insurance operations since 1997.
Before Hudson, he served in a similar capacity at Firemen’s Fund. He also held positions at The Doctors’ Company, NORCAL Mutual, Marsh and McLennan and the captive insurance company for the Adventist Health System.
Bermuda-based AXIS Capital offers specialty lines insurance and treaty reinsurance.
