AXA Equitable Life Insurance, part of the global AXA Group, has appointed Mary Bates, Nicholas Liolis and John Rivett as new senior vice presidents.

Bates will serve as the head of Life Underwriting and will report to Joanne Pietrini-Smith, senior vice president and head of Business Management and Operations for the company’s Financial Protection and Wealth Management business.

In this new position, Bates will be responsible for developing underwriting guidelines and procedures consistent with the company’s risk management policies. She will manage the underwriting teams supporting both retail and third-party distribution channels.

Liolis will be the chief credit officer for the company, reporting to Kevin Byrne, executive vice president and chief investment officer.

Liolis will be responsible for the general account’s fixed-income credit portfolio, asset liability management, setting and implementing investment strategy and managing risks in the company’s investment portfolio.

Liolis has been with the company for 15 years working in the areas of investment analysis and asset liability management as well as fixed income and alternative investment portfolio management.

Rivett will be the senior information officer for AXA Equitable’s Financial Protection and Wealth Management business. He will report to Michael Healy, senior vice president and chief information officer for the company.

Rivett will be responsible for delivering IT strategies that are aligned with the unit’s business goals. He will oversee the teams responsible for project delivery, fiscal control, operational reliability, vendor management and process improvement. Rivett joined AXA Equitable in 2007.
