Under the new business, AXA will roll out a suite of benefits products, including group life insurance, dental and vision, short- and long-term disability, gap medical and hospital indemnity, and critical illness.

These products are expected to be made available for customers from the middle of this year, according to AXA.

Hervé Balzano, a 15-year veteran of AXA and AXA France, along with his team will manage the new business.

AXA US employee benefits head Balzano said: "AXA is entering the US employee benefits market at a time of great opportunity to help business owners navigate new regulations and obtain affordable and flexible coverage for their employees.

"While competitors struggle to adapt their legacy services and technology to the present, we have the advantage of building, from the ground up, a seamless platform that is unencumbered by the past and ready for the future."

The team of Balzano includes distribution head James Long, operations and technology head Leann Bohner, product, pricing and underwriting head and chief actuary Amanda Turcotte.
