AXA Equitable Life Insurance, a subsidiary of AXA Financial, part of the AXA Group, has appointed John Carlson as new head of Life Distribution Management.
He will lead life insurance sales for AXA Equitable’s proprietary and third-party and career distribution channels, reporting to David O’Leary, executive vice president and head of the company’s Financial Protection division.
He will also oversee the company’s life wholesaling teams, as well as national accounts and advanced markets. Carlson will also develop strategies for new and complementary life distribution opportunities for the company.
Carlson’s title, senior vice president, is subject to board approval in February.
Prior to joining AXA Equitable, Carlson held several leadership positions in sales, marketing and product management for MassMutual Financial Group. Most recently, he was corporate vice president, national sales manager for the US Insurance Group, responsible for sales of all life, disability, long-term care and annuity products.
Carlson also led external wholesaling, advanced sales, career brokerage and sales operations for the company. Before joining MassMutual in 2002, he held senior sales positions at Cigna Healthcare; Bankers Systems; Digital Equipment Corporation; and Wang Laboratories.
