AXA Equitable, a subsidiary of AXA Financial, has appointed Kermitt Brooks, John Carlson, Kevin Kennedy and Patricia Louie as senior vice presidents.

Recently appointed Kermitt Brooks will lead the law department’s insurance practice group, responsible for legal advice and regulatory filings regarding product design, policy forms and structure, and illustrations and policyholder. He will report to Dave Hattem, general counsel for AXA Equitable.

Prior to joining the company, Brooks served as first deputy/acting superintendent for the New York State Insurance Department; he held senior positions in the New York State Attorney General’s office; and he served as counsel at MetLife and the law firm of Nixon Peabody.

Carlson joined AXA Equitable in December to head life distribution management, reporting to David O’Leary, executive vice president.

Carlson is responsible for defining and leading life sales strategies that support the company’s growth objectives across all existing distribution channels, as well as for developing strategies for complementary distribution opportunities.

He joined AXA Equitable from MassMutual Financial Group, where he held leadership roles in sales, marketing and product management.

Kennedy returned to AXA Equitable to lead strategic accounts, strategic marketing & advanced markets, and operations and technology for AXA Distributors, the company’s wholesale distribution channel. He will report to Nick Lane, senior executive vice president and president of retirement savings.

Since 2008, Kennedy has served as chief distribution officer with AXA Global Distributors in Paris, where he built and ran its distribution organization.

Louie manages the law department’s funds management practice group, reporting to Hattem. Louie provides legal advice related to the proprietary mutual funds offered as investment options in AXA Equitable’s insurance products.

Her responsibilities also include preparing and presenting materials to the board of trustees, handling regulatory filings, and overseeing compliance and diligence reviews.
