Aviva has appointed Igal Mayer as new CEO for Europe with immediate effect, replacing Andrea Moneta, who will be leaving the company at the end of February 2010.

Mayer, current CEO of North America, will also join the board of Aviva, subject to regulatory approval.

Igal’s career with the Aviva began in Canada in 1989, since then he held various positions in the organization with the increasing responsibilities that include chief financial officer and executive vice-president, managing director, finance director and as chief executive of UK General Insurance.

In addition, Aviva has also appointed Richard Hoskins, CFO North America, to succeed Igal Mayer. Hoskins will also join Aviva’s executive committee, subject to regulatory approval.

Before joining Aviva, Richard served as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Old Mutual US. Prior to that, he was acting group finance director at Old Mutual in London, and CEO of National Australia Insurance Services, a subsidiary of National Australia Bank’s UK operations.
