Australia’s carrier airline Qantas has partnered with nib to provide private health insurance products through the new program, Qantas Assure.

The program, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2016, will reward frequent flyers with Qantas Points.

The partnership will also provide travel insurance under the same program, which the airline already offers to around half-a-million customers a year.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said: "Qantas Loyalty has shown it knows how to attract, reward and retain members for their choice of airline, credit card or retailer.

"By partnering with nib, we believe there is a huge opportunity to do the same thing in the $19bn private health insurance market and drive significant growth for the Loyalty business."

Through the deal, nib will provide its health insurance, risk assessment and underwriting capability while Qantas Loyalty offer its marketing, data and customer retention expertise.

According to Qantas, the program is targeting a 2% to 3% share of the Australian private health insurance market on a revenue basis in its first five years.

nib’s managing director Mark Fitzgibbon said the partnership with Qantas is one of the most innovative partnerships ever offered in the Australian private health insurance market.
