Arch Capital reported a net loss of $143m for Q4 08 compared to a net income of $234.4m for Q4 07

Arch Capital has reported a net loss to common shareholders of $143 million, or $2.28 per share, on a pro forma basis, for the fourth quarter of 2008, compared to net income available to common shareholders of $234.4 million, or $3.31 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2007.

The company reported after-tax operating income available to common shareholders for the 2008 fourth quarter of $85.9 million, or $1.37 per share, on a pro forma basis, compared to $221.5 million, or $3.12 per share, for the 2007 fourth quarter.

Net investment income for the 2008 fourth quarter was $111.7 million, or $1.79 per share on a pro forma basis, compared to $120.8 million, or $1.70 per share, for the 2007 fourth quarter.

For the year ended December 31, 2008, the company reported that net income available to common shareholders was $265.1 million, or $4.09 per share, compared to $832.1 million, or $11.28 per share, for the year ended December 31, 2007.

For the year ended December 31, 2008, the company reported that after-tax operating income available to common shareholders was $537.4 million, or $8.29 per share, compared to $846.5 million, or $11.47 per share, for the 2007 period. For the year 2008, net investment income was $468.1 million, or $7.22 per share, compared to $463.2 million, or $6.28 per share, for the year 2007.
