Arch Capital Group, a provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance lines, has reported a net income of $192.3 million for the second quarter of 2008, compared to $199.4 million in the 2007 second quarter.

For the six months ended June 30, 2008, net income available to common shareholders declined to $381.7 million, or $5.71 per share from $397.9 million, or $5.24 per share for the 2007 comparable period.

The company also reported after-tax operating income available to common shareholders of $185.4 million, or $2.82 per share for the 2008 second quarter, compared to $205.6 million, or $2.73 per share for the 2007 second quarter, and $387.4 million, or $5.79 per share for the first six months as against $410.4 million, or $5.40 per share for the same period in 2007.

Net investment income for the 2008 second quarter was $117.1 million, compared to $113.9 million for the 2007 second quarter. During the first six-month period in 2008, net investment income was $239.3 million versus $224 million for the same first six-month period in 2007.
