AmTrust Financial Services has reported a net income of $45.2m, or $0.74 for the diluted earnings per share, in first quarter 2010 in the first quarter of 2011, compared to $38.7m, or $0.64 diluted earning per share, in the same quarter of 2010.

Total revenues were $275.8m for the first quarter of 2011, compared to $203.7m for the corresponding quarter of 2010.

Operating earnings for the first quarter of 2011 were $46.2m compared to $31.5m for the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2011, net written premiums were $234.0m, compared to $189.4m in the first quarter of 2010.

Net earned premium were $200.3m for the first quarter of 2011, compared to $148.1m for the same period last year.

AmTrust Financial CEO Barry Zyskind said the momentum from 2010 has carried over into the first quarter results as the company delivered strong net income and a return on equity in excess of 20%.
