Amlin, a UK-based specialist insurance and reinsurance underwriting group, has appointed Miles Taffs as new head of aviation at Amlin London.

Miles will take on his new role from the 30 March 2011 following the retirement of Rod Dampier who has headed up Amlin’s aviation underwriting operation since 1997.

Miles, who joined Amlin London in 2003 as leading class underwriter, aviation, entered the London Insurance Market in 1986 working as a broker at Willis Faber.

In 1988 he began his underwriting career with Minster Insurance and, after mergers with WAIG and Allianz Marine & Aviation, worked across the airline, products, airports and GA sub-classes. Miles was later appointed to lead the airline business for both of these entities.
