The Florida Healthy Kids program of managed healthcare company Amerigroup Corporation has completed a bidding process that will expand the role of the company's Florida subsidiary in offering health insurance to many of Florida's uninsured children.

The board of directors of Florida Healthy Kids has approved Amerigroup Community Care of Florida to continue to cover children in eight counties where it currently operates: Broward, Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Orange, Pasco, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Polk.

In addition, effective October 1, 2008, Amerigroup Community Care will begin offering coverage to children in Brevard, Lake, Manatee and Seminole counties, for a total of 12 counties.

Florida Healthy Kids is part of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, a joint federal-state initiative designed to provide healthcare coverage to families who otherwise would not get it.

James Carlson, chairman, president and CEO of Amerigroup Corporation, said: We are pleased that Florida Healthy Kids is offering Amerigroup the opportunity to help even more of Florida’s uninsured children get quality healthcare. Amerigroup has worked to meet the health needs of Florida’s children through this program for more than five years. We look forward to building on our record of service.
