Insurance company Allianz Global Assistance Australia has named Luc Derix as its chief information officer after the departure of Abdul Hussein last December.

In 2009, Derix joined Allianz as the company’s business intelligence manager and worked as acting CIO for six months, while the insurer sought a replacement CIO to lead its IT&T team of "over 50", reports itnews.com.

Allianz chief executive officer Ian Norris was quoted by the news portal as saying that Derix had demonstrated an ability to take on a senior leadership position and established efficiencies across Allianz’s IT platforms, services and operation teams while in the acting CIO role.

Derix told the website that he is planning to set up a new asset management process and kick off a global IT project to the business.

Allianz’s Global Assistance, formerly known as Mondial Assistance in Australia, offers travel insurance and roadside assistance products.
