US-based insurance brokerage and risk management firm Arthur J Gallagher & Co (AJG) has entered into a three-year deal with Parkinson's UK to offer bespoke travel, home and motor insurance scheme.

Through its unique scheme designed for people with pre-existing medical conditions and disabilities, AJG will offer various insurance products and services from a simple one-call-to-quote service with no age restrictions and without the need for separate medical screening by a third party.

People suffering from Parkinson’s can get either platinum or gold levels of travel insurance cover as well as various types of add-on services, including airport parking, hotels and lounges and car hire excess insurance.

In order to avail the insurance facility, medical screening is carried out at the point of quotation. AJG will donate about a third of the commission from each policy to Parkinson’s UK.

Arthur J Gallagher Parkinson’s UK account manager Diane Caplehorn said: "Parkinson’s affects around 127,000 people in the UK, and every hour someone is newly diagnosed with the condition.

"We know it can be bewildering at the best of times to find the right insurance, particularly so if you have on-going health issues. It’s important to be able to access insurance simply and quickly.

"We have taken on board the difficulties and frustrations that often come with finding insurance, and tailored our Unique offering around this."

Parkinson’s UK trading and merchandise manager Suzanne Little said: "What impressed us about the team at Unique was the way they took the time to really understand what Parkinson’s is, its impact on people, and the work of our charity to create a truly tailored offering for our members and supporters."

The Unique scheme is being offered by Charity Solutions, part of Gallagher Insurance Solutions.

More than 20 000 travel insurance policies were written for customers from Gallagher’s charity partners in 2013.
