The board of directors of American International Group has elected Suzanne Johnson as a new director of the company.

Ms Johnson retired as the vice chairman of The Goldman Sachs Group in 2007. She had been at the firm for more than two decades in roles including the head of the global investment research division and the chairman of the global markets institute.

Ms Johnson earned a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School and a BA degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Southern California.
