Aetna, a diversified health care benefits company, had entered into a new network agreement with Long Island Health Network (LIHN), that will enable Aetna members who receive care at any of the LIHN hospitals and facilities to continue to be covered at the in-network level of benefits.

The new multi-year contract applies to all Aetna health plan products including Student Health and Medicare, and will be 1 January 2011.

Aetna senior vice president- Network for New York said LIHN has been an excellent partner and we are pleased to continue to provide our members access to their robust network of quality hospitals and physicians on Long Island.

LIHN president and CEO Brian Currie said this agreement, along with Aetna’s support of LIHN’s diabetes management and prevention initiative, all help advance LIHN’s mission to provide affordable, high-quality health care options to individuals and businesses on Long Island.

The New York based hospitals included in the agreement are: Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, East Patchogue; Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, West Islip; John T Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson; Mercy Medical Center, Rockville Centre; South Nassau Communities Hospital, Oceanside; St Catherine of Siena Medical Center, Smithtown, St Charles Hospital, Port Jefferson, St Francis Hospital – The Heart Center, Roslyn, St Joseph Hospital, Bethpage ; and Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola.
