Netherlands-based insurance provider Aegon has signed a deal with UK banking group Dunfermline Building Society that will allow the Dutch group to offer its life assurance products on the UK high street through Dunfermline branches.

Aegon’s UK range of life assurance and protection products will be available to Dunfermline’s customers, through its network of 34 branches and 38 agencies, and will join eight other insurers, including Norwich Union, Axa, and Scottish Widows, that already offer their products via the building society.

The Edinburgh-based finance group has more than 350,000 customers across the UK and will be able to offer greater choice to its consumers with the addition of Aegon’s products.

This alliance is in line with Aegon’s distribution development strategy, which aims to broaden the range of methods customers can access their products and services.

Aegon chief executive Otto Thoresen said: One of our key aims for 2007 is to make Aegon’s range of products available to a wider range of customers and this new partnership represents an important step forward in this respect.

Dunfermline is one of Scotland’s most highly respected financial institutions with a strong customer focus, which makes it an ideal partner for Aegon. We’re looking forward to working together in the future.

Dunfermline customers will have access to Aegon’s protection product range including life assurance, critical illness cover and income protection cover under the Aegon Scottish Equitable brand.
