The ACE Group has appointed Paul Vermeulen as senior vice president of international accident and health (A&H) direct marketing, who will be responsible for building the company's direct marketing business in underdeveloped markets and uncover opportunities to extend its penetration in markets.

Most recently, Mr Vermeulen served as senior vice president of foreign general insurance operations, and in charge of A&H strategic initiatives at AIG. In his new role, he will be based in New York and will report to Edward Levin, executive vice president of International A&H.

Prior to his most recent assignment, Mr Vermeulen had been senior regional vice president of A&H for AIG’s China and Southeast Asia operations based in Shanghai from 2004 to 2008, and served as regional vice president for AIG’s A&H businesses in South Africa from 2000 to 2003 and Benelux and Scandinavia from 1992 to 2000. He held several positions in Belgium group life business of Zurich Financial Services from 1983 to 1992.

Mr Levin, said: “Direct marketing has been one of the largest and fastest growing businesses for International A&H. With Paul on board, we now have a seasoned and accomplished professional at the global level who will focus on enhancing this business, improving our marketing effectiveness and putting programs in place to train our direct marketing staff around the world.”
